What Is Inflammation? inflammation is the body’s immune system’s response to a foreign invaders or any stimulus. The response can be in the form of capillary dilation, leukocyte infiltration, and production of chemical mediators. But sometimes our body starts responding even in the absence of any stimulus, this condition is termed as ‘chronic inflammation’. Chronic inflammation lasts longer, and starts to happen internally. Two major types of Inflammation are ‘essential inflammation’ and ‘low grade inflammation’. Low grade inflammation is another term used for chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation leads to other health risks. Weight gain, heart diseases, digestive issues, diabetes and cancer are some of them. Do chronic inflammation leads to weight gain? Chronic inflammation leads to weight gain by several means, insulin resistance and leptin resistance are two significant ways.

During inflammation, our body releases cytokines. Cytokines also interfere with the insulin production. When our body becomes resistant to insulin, pancreas secretes more of it, which triggers our body to store fat. This is how insulin resistance causes weight gain.

leptin is a hormone which tells our mind, when to stop eating. Inflammation also interferes with leptin production. This will result in excessive intake of calories, and leads to obesity.
